It’s time to rake the leaves . . .
Leaf Raking is one of our team’s major fundraisers, and is a fantastic opportunity for rowers to earn individual credit ($15/hour) and a little sweat equity toward their dues.
How does this all work? Our clients are individuals in the community who request our help with leaf raking. Many of them have been supporting us for years. Teams of 3-4 rakers (accompanied by one parent) sign up for a job. The team brings their own rakes (and blowers if desired), and the client provides the bags. The team rakes the yard, bags the leaves, and moves the bagged leaves to the client’s desired location. The client pays $15 per hour for each raker, including the parent if the parent rakes, with a minimum fee of $90. All money is credited to the rower’s individual account toward their dues payment.
How do I sign up? The sign-ups are coordinated through Time to Sign Up at this link: https://ttsu.me/drdh3u. The first person to sign up for a job must be a parent/child team, and then other rakers can fill the remaining slots. Note – the spreadsheet is very dense – when you scroll down you’ll see more jobs. For the first week of sign-ups, please only sign up for a maximum of three jobs so that everyone can get an opportunity to sign up. A few days before the job, you will receive an email with further instructions (and directions on what to do in the event of inclement weather).
What happens on the day of the job? There are two shifts per day – one starting at 8 AM and another starting at 1 PM. The team should coordinate a meet-up plan in advance and make every effort to show up on time with rakes and positive, can-do attitudes that reflect well on the team. The client will provide bags ( Fairfax County has banned plastic leaf bags) and direct the team on where to place the bagged leaves. The client and the parent should agree on the number of hours a job takes to complete, and the parent should accept cash or a check made payable to WS Crew Boosters Club before the team departs the jobsite. Each job is different, but the historical average is about 3-4 hours per job.
What happens after the job? Before departing the jobsite, the parent should collect the payment from the client. Any tips received will be divided among the rakers. The payment should be delivered back to the team the same day the raking is performed (contact and address TBD).
